The ongoing public health situation has led to a drastic loss of human life and has brought unprecedented challenges to the educational system worldwide. However, despite ensuring the learning continuity through curriculum adjustments and alignment of learning materials implemented by the Department of Education for this School Year 2020-2021, the concerns in learning continuity remain an issue and have a significant impact in selecting relevant teaching methods and strategies during this pandemic outbreak. This apprehension led educational policy makers and educators to focus on the need for alternative instructional strategies. Teachers should innovate teaching through tapping legitimate online tools and resources that are suitable for the learners’ needs in the new normal education. This is the reason why we have this training to intensify the utilization of video assisted instruction in teaching and learning processes. The Day 1 of the school-based rollout of division webinar on the production of video assisted lessons was started from a short celebration of women’s month and an oath taking ceremony for the new faculty association officers. The video assisted lesson produced by the selected teachers who attended the division training was presented to inspire and give teachers the idea on what is expected for this three-day training. The first session, video lesson script writing, was discussed by Miss Princess P. Dipasupil, Special Science Teacher I. Miss Dipasupil emphasized the importance of script writing in producing a quality video assisted lesson. She pointed out that the video lesson script must be written brief but concise. She also explained the advantages of preparing a script for video lessons. These include minimized mistakes, less number of takes during the production phase, and less time for editing during the post production. To discuss the concerns on video editing, Mr. Roi M. Francisco, Teacher II, explored the use of Filmora and other video editing applications. Mr. Francisco elaborated the goals of editing such as removing unwanted footage, choosing the best footage, creating a systematic flow, adding effects, graphics, and music, altering the style, pace or mood of the video, and giving the video a particular angle. He also enumerated free and low-cost video editing software tools that can be used in creating video assisted lessons. For the last session of the first day of the video assisted lesson production rollout, Mr. Arthur Alexis S. Bugayong, Teacher I, demonstrated the use of OBS as a tool for recording class sessions. He comprehensively discussed the features of OBS and allowed teachers to experience this software. Guidelines and suggestions in recording class sessions were also explained in the session. The Day 1 of training was ended by giving the mechanics on producing video assisted lessons that will be accomplished by each subject area. The mechanics was delivered and clarified by Mr. Mark Joseph F. Orillo and Mr. Jerico D. Castillo, Teacher III. The groups who are expected to showcase their video assisted lessons are the following: group of english department under the supervision of Dr. Corpuz, humanities and social sciences department under the supervision of Mr. Ismael T. Santos, and science department under the supervision of Miss Marita S. Icay. Thank you for having a fruitful Day 1 of training on the production of video assisted lessons. We are now excited to see the outputs of everyone. Stay safe and have a nice day, everyone. Written by: Elarcie Balsomo, Special Science Teacher I |
